Volumetric dosing is a method of dosing that helps maintain accuracy
This blog post will focus on volumetric dosing of methadone/suboxone however it can be used for any medication.
For those for those of you who have liquid methadone, Or those with methadone tablets that want a more accurate method of cutting their doses volumetric dosing may help you.
Before we start:
Anything regarding your taper or medication dosage should be discussed with your doctor. These are just general recommendations that you can discuss with your doctor.
Volumetric Dosing:
Volumetric dosing is done by dissolving your medicine in water to dilute it and then using a medical syringe to measure and administer the dose.
For those who have liquid methadone it may not need to be dissolved in water.
Step one figure out your methadone strength per milliliter. This can be done by pouring out your dose into a measuring cup.
Then you divide your dose strength by the amount of milliliters
And you are left with the mg per milliliter
So if for example you pour 100mg of methadone into a measuring cup and it comes out to 10ml you now know that your methadone is 10mg per milliliter.
100mg /10ml = 10mg per ml

That means that a one ml oral syringe (at no cost to you we will receive a small commission on purchases made through affiliate links, proceeds will go towards keeping the site running) can hold 10mg of methadone. So .1ml is 1mg and every .02ml line is .2 mg.
This way you can accurately measure and dose to .2 of a mg.
Using volumetric dosing you can control the strength of your solution depending on how much water you add.
For Suboxone let's say you dissolve 1mg in 1ml of water using an oral syringe. That means each .1ml is .1mg of Suboxone. This can help you to complete your taper when you get to super small doses.
